Since 2014, we have been improving travel conditions for disabled people
Disway
is an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to improving travel for disabled people.
The organisation started in 2014, when the disway.org community network was created to share information about accessible places in the Czech Republic and Europe. The founder of the idea was Jiří Maule, a tetraplegic programmer. However, the project grew organically and we used the cooperation with the neighbouring Saxony for its development.
In the years 2021 - 2022, the project "Travelling for the Disabled" was funded by the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between the Czech Republic and the Free State of Saxony. The three project partners created the Disway Trails App as an output and a non-binding cooperation platform called the Barrier-Free Network. The Barrier-Free Network has been organising workshops and conferences since 2021 and in the years 2022-2025, eight partners have emerged from its thirty members to join together in another innovative development project "Travelling without Barriers."
At one of the conferences that Disway organizes, it was emphasized that accessibility is not just for the disabled, but that it is becoming a natural part of holiday comfort and an inclusive society. This is also the thesis of the German tourism brand "Travel for All," which has no equivalent in the Czech environment. The natural accessible environment will support the family, the single mother with several children on a trip, the elderly, and of course also the traveller with a suitcase in the context of conference tourism.
