The mapping team was busy again
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, our group of mappers was at it again. In the morning they mapped the road from Jablonné v Podještědí to the Lemberk castle. The pair Aleš Černohous and Milan Novotný were joined this time by Jana Panáčková to check the terrain with a baby carriage.
"Lemberk Castle itself is a bit more challenging for wheelchair users, but the path from Markvartice Pond past Zdislava's Well and the Black Lake is beautiful," says Aleš.
Lemberk Castle offers wheelchair users only the ground-floor rooms, but even so, it is necessary to cross large stone thresholds. "We will try to enter into negotiations with the National Heritage Institute and together propose a friendly solution that would make the castle a little easier for wheelchair users", adds Jana Panáčková, who is a conservationist by profession.
In the afternoon Ales and Milan moved to Krompach. Here they were joined by Honza Komůrka, who has many years of experience with assisting wheelchair users. They were about to climb Hvozd, in German Hochwald, whose lower peak with a lookout tower is located in Germany. This particular climb on the German side is quite challenging for wheelchair users and it is necessary to have an able-bodied escort with you. This route can really only be recommended to the brave who are not afraid of challenges. In order to be able to admire the surroundings from the observation deck from the top, a wheelchair user needs to climb about 10 more steps below the lookout tower.
"There are beautiful views along the way, especially on the Czech side. But the climb to Hvozd really gave me a hard time", laughs Milan.
The reward for everyone after the challenging climb was a move to nearby Cvikovo, where our team mapped the brewery restaurant. However, we will have to return here once again to check out the newly accessible facilities, including the wheelchair accessible accommodation, after the reconstruction.
In the next week we continue mapping Hrádek nad Nisou and its surroundings.
